Schott NYC

Horsehide Leather Jacket

In 1913, two brothers, Irving and Jack Schott went after their piece of the American Dream in New York City. Irving Schott's leather jackets were lovingly branded with the name of his favorite cigar - the Perfecto. By the mid-twenties, Schott NYC was revolutionizing the way Americans dressed for the outdoors when they were the first to put a zipper on a jacket.

Flash forward to 1954, when the "The Wild Ones" featured the hot young actor, Marlon Brando, perched on his motorcycle wearing his Schott Perfecto. Brando's jacket became Schott's iconic leather jacket, and this Perfecto jacket was adopted as the uniform of the punk rock movement of the 1970s and 1980s. Rock stars like The Ramones, Blondie, and Joan Jett, were thrashing, strutting, and wailing in their Schott leather jackets!

Schott NYC is still owned and run by the third and fourth generations of the Schott family who still manufacture most of their clothing in the United States. In Schott's old brick building, they continue to produce American classics by the hands of trained craftspeople.

Thurston Bros. has a long-standing history with the Schott brand because of our strong roots in vintage motorcycle jackets. Many of the very first leather jackets we sold were Schott jackets from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Schott also produced our popular Beck vintage jackets in the time period between 1950 and 1960. We continue to find, restore, and sell vintage Schott leathers, but we also offer many of Schott's current styles! Our best-selling Schott styles are the replicas of old Schott patterns such as the 1950s Beck cafe' racer, now known as the Schott CAF1, and the Schott 1937 Half Belt jacket, now known as the Perfecto Sunset Half Belt.  Of course, we can also order any jacket that Schott offers and have extensive knowledge about the various fits of different Schott styles and the leather types used for each jacket.
